Singing all the way from Wesley to Nashville

Suzy Jamieson (Axup) (OW1995) always had music in her heart and a song in her head. At school she sang in every choir, treading the boards in countless Adamson Theatre productions, and became a vocalist for the Big Band. Her passion for the arts also led her to become a Music and Drama Prefect in her final year.

Suzy on stage and in their element

‘Music has always been a big part of me. I believe music isn’t something you choose but more of a calling – a gravitational pull I guess you could say.’

Initially, Suzy studied and worked in commerce where she helped her husband, Alex Jamieson (OW1994), build a boutique financial planning firm, AJ Financial Planning, but the undercurrent beat of music never left her.

After having kids, Suzy felt she needed to do something for herself. So over the past six years, she has nurtured her talent and has become an amazing artist – a true singer-songwriter – and Nashville is starting to take notice!

Suzy has been travelling to and from the home of country music for the past two years, writing and creating country-pop music. Working with acclaimed Music City producers and some of Nashville’s finest musicians, Suzy has written and recorded some truly beautiful songs. ‘I grew up on pop and love their catchy hooks, but I have also fallen in love with country music and the way they are such beautiful storytellers. I think my songs are a blend – the best of both worlds!

In Nashville, Suzy has collaborated with some renowned songwriters who have had #1 hits in the country music charts. ‘Nashville is known for its co-writing sessions, and I have been so grateful to learn and hone my craft from these musical wizards.’ With six songs out already and many more in her catalogue, Suzy is living proof that it is never too late to follow your dreams. ‘Through my music, I want to show my two boys that life is what you make it and it’s never too late.’

While Suzy has put her voice to her own songs for now, she is currently working with agents in Nashville with the goal of having her songs sung by other artists and heard all over the world. You can follow and support her journey @suzyjmusic and suzyjmusic.com
