Collegians Football Club
As Season 2023 draws near, the club is looking optimistically at both our senior men’s and women’s teams having a good year.
The women’s team have gone up a division and are now playing in the top section of the VAFA in Premier Women’s, alongside our men playing in Premier Men’s. This will be a tough task, but one the girls are going to tackle head on and ewe have no doubt they will do the club and themselves proud.
Recruitment-wise, we have not had any big AFL names come into the club, but we are really looking forward to seeing several of the 2022 Wesley First XVIII play at Collegians this year. They are a great bunch of boys and have some serious football talent. I can see these boys having an impact at Collegians for the next 10 years and becoming the backbone of the club in the not-too-distant future.
We would still like to see more female footballers come down to play at the club; we can give them a terrific environment to play football in a very good competition – the best women’s competition in Melbourne.
Our coaching panel has remained the same as last year with Jared Rivers (Men) and Dom Lucarelli (Women) going around again in 2023. We welcome a couple of great OWs in to coach the Reserves in Nick Hibbins (OW1982) and Ash Heriot (OW1982); they will both be great for our Reserves and especially for the new boys who had them coaching at the school last year.
The club will have six teams in 2023: Men’s will field Seniors, Reserves, Thirds and Under 19 teams, and Women’s will run out with Seniors and Reserves.
We have a team to fit any need, from a Thirds team that only trains once a week on Wednesday nights, to our Under 19s for new young players not just from Wesley College but also from St Michael’s and from around the Albert Park/South Melbourne area.
We pride ourselves on being an inclusive club who treats everyone as equals, and we believe the culture around the club is first class.
