Bringing life to language

The Lion Dance is performed on the Jean James Oval

The Junior School at Glen Waverley Campus celebrated the Chinese New Year in Term One with a lunchtime visit from the Chinese Lion Dance.

In the spirit of the IB Primary Years Program, the teaching and learning of Chinese language is made more relevant for the children by bringing real-world connections to their study.

When the Lion Dance was performed on our oval, students witnessed the energy, movement and colour and developed a better understanding of the significance and cultural relevance of the dance, regardless of their family background.

Our talented and dedicated Chinese teachers spend a great deal of time and creative energy building a relevant and engaging curriculum, from cooking to learning dances, plays, poetry and songs. To hear the staff and children in action in the Chinese classroom is exciting!

We cater for the children’s varying levels of Chinese language mastery, supporting both beginner and novice speakers, as well as those who have already developed a degree of mastery with a family background in Chinese.
