Annual Rob Webster Lunch

L-R: Frank Opray (OW 1963), Ian Webster (OW 1954), Jane Burch (nee Webster) (OW 1995), Frances Webster, Helen Roach, Daniel Moon (OW 1990), Catherine Webster (OW 1992), Kim Webster (OW 1990), Jack Ayerbe (OW 1963)

For some years, a group of contemporaries of Rob Webster (OW1963) have celebrated his contribution to Wesley and to its governance as a Council member.

Rob died too young at the age of 57 but his memory lives on. He was captain of the school in his final year, went on to be a successful barrister and was a prominent player and subsequently President of Collegians Football Club.

His presidential year, 1992, was the centenary of Collegians and yielded the premiership in the VAFA A Grade competition, the trophy for which is the 'L.A. Adamson Cup'.

Some 50 guests enjoyed a wonderful lunch in his honour at Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club in December 2021. For the first time, representatives from the other APS schools, most of whom Rob played cricket and/or football against, joined in the celebrations. It is hoped that this will become a continuing feature of the annual lunch.

L-R: The APS trophies on display were Athletics: “The Challenge Cup”, Cricket: “The Hamilton Cup”, Rowing: “The Fairbairn Cup”, Football: “The L.A. Adamson Cup”. In the centre is the VAFA ‘A Grade’ Premiership trophy, also titled “The L.A. Adamson Cup”.

Apart from being a reunion lunch, the event serves as a focal point for supporting the Rob Webster Bursary Fund which, as part of the Wesley College Foundation Scholarship program, generates funds for a deserving student who would not otherwise be able to attend Wesley.

This year there was also a display of APS sporting cups and the VAFA ‘A Grade’ Premiership Cup, (L.A. Adamson Cup), which created much interest.
