President's report

President Kate Evans (OW1998) welcomed Year 12 students from both GW and SKR campuses to the OWCA at their Valedictory services

Welcome to 2022 from your OWCA. We are pleased to report that our reunions, dinners, networking events and celebrations are in full force once again.

I had the wonderful opportunity of attending the iconic Boat Race Dinner this year, held in late March at Leonda by the Yarra, where we celebrated the First VIII rowers and all things Wesley rowing.

Hosted by the charismatic Cam Williams (OW1982), it was fantastic to feature 2021 Paul Guest rowing medal recipient, Leyla Kenneally (OW2021), who rowed in last year’s winning female crew along with sister Lauren, who rowed in this year’s winning girls crew, and their father Andrew ‘Crackers’ Kenneally (OW1989), Wesley football and rowing First VIII champion in 1988 and 1989, all interviewed by Mark Hibbins (OW1978), Community Liaison OWCA. Many thanks, as always, to the Alan Mitchell Club for their support in putting on such a cherished event for our Wesley rowing community.

In late March, we had the opportunity to hear from two of our most passionate OW members. Former Victorian Liberal Party President, Michael Kroger (OW1974) and recent Monash City Council candidate, School Captain and OWCA Executive Board member, Tom Pewtress (OW2018), discussed all things politics and shared their thoughts on the upcoming Federal election.

We strongly encourage all OW’s to create a personal profile and upload your business details and imagery to our community app OWConnect. It’s an invaluable opportunity for you as an OW to link with other OWs and OW businesses, stay up-to-date with employment opportunities and mentoring, and find career opportunities, social networking and support.

We continue to keep the graduating Classes of 2020 and 2021 top of mind and we are workshopping ideas as to how we can support them in their transition into the next stage of their life. Stay tuned 2020/21 leavers, and keep your eyes peeled for special opportunities we will create specifically for you so we can formally welcome you into the OWCA.

We hope that many OWs join us in celebrating our organisation’s oldest and most loved tradition, Founders’ Day Dinner, which will be held at the magnificent Plaza Ballroom on Saturday 14 May. This year’s ticket price is $100, so there is no reason for you to miss the biggest and best event on the OWCA Calendar! After our extremely well-timed in-person event last year between lockdowns, this year’s dinner is sure to be one that builds on the momentum.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Kate Evans (OW1998)
