About the project

Rowing is a part of our legacy.  Since its modest beginnings in the 1870’s, rowing remains a popular and thriving sport today.

To give our students the best cocurricular opportunities to learn and grow through rowing, we are currently redeveloping the iconic Wesley Boathouse. Well-known Wesley architect and former rower Peter Sandow (OW1966) has designed a stunning contemporary facility.

The boathouse design features:

  • an additional fourth bay for storing boats
  • redevelopment of the interior of the existing building, transforming it into a large multifunctional space
  • new change rooms, gymnasium, kitchen, boat trailer storage and sealed car parking.
Help us make a difference

Through the generosity of alumni and parents, the Wesley College Foundation has raised $2.1 million of the $2.5 million required.

Please support Wesley’s rowing legacy into the future by making your tax-deductible donation today.

From the architect

Peter Sandow says:

Sport today continues to develop an increasingly broad reach into all aspects of life and learning – and rowing is no different. Plans are underway to renovate and extend our Boatshed on the Yarra at Como  to offer flexible learning alternatives and attract more newcomers to the sport.

The renovation and extension of the Boatshed not only creates an extension to facilities, but also provides flexibility for the rowing fraternity and the broader Wesley community. The multiuse building will accommodate meetings, briefings and continuing education, attracting ongoing use as a multicampus learning centre. The renewed building and landscaping in this riverine setting will attract greater participation in rowing from students across all Wesley campuses.
